One of the questions that comes up quite often among practitioners, especially in the early stages of training, concerns Fa Qi and the process behind it. Recently, a student asked an interesting question in the Discord group: why is assistance needed in the beginning, and how does the process actually work?

This question offers a good opportunity to demystify Fa Qi, explain the stages involved, and clarify what role teachers, training, and — in some cases — traditional Daoist pills play in this process.

What Fa Qi Really Is

Fa Qi (Fa Chi) simply means emitting vital energy. It is one form of energy emission, and among the various expressions of Qi, it is often the one that attracts the most attention. In Fa Qi, the receiver typically experiences a strong electric-like sensation moving through the body.

Because of this intensity, Fa Qi is sometimes perceived as something extraordinary or mystical. In reality, it is a particular energetic expression that arises under very specific conditions. It is visible, tangible, and undeniable when experienced directly — but it represents only a small part of Nei Gong practice.

Fa Qi Is Difficult, Even With High Energy Levels

One important point that often creates confusion is this:having a lot of energy does not automatically mean being able to emit it.

Within the Nei Gong system, everyone who practices consistently will significantly increase their energy level. This is not in question. However, not everyone will be able to perform Fa Qi. This is not a limitation of the system, but rather a reflection of individual characteristics, just as in any other discipline.

Fa Qi requires the synchronization of multiple aspects of our being:

  • Mind

  • Emotional state

  • Physical action

  • Energetic action

All of these must align at the same time. On top of that, there must also be the inner conviction that it is possible. In the beginning, this alone can feel almost impossible, simply because the experience is so intense and unfamiliar.

The First Step: Assisted Fa Qi

For this reason, the first step is always assisted.

This is where the role of the teacher becomes essential. Through direct assistance — often by working on specific areas such as the Ming Men or the kidneys — the teacher helps the practitioner push the vital energy outward.

This first assisted experience is crucial. It allows the practitioner to feel Fa Qi directly, not as an idea or belief, but as a lived experience. From that moment on, something changes internally: the practitioner knows that it is possible.

Like learning any skill, guidance and support are natural in the beginning. Over time, this assistance becomes less necessary as understanding and coordination develop.

The Second Stage: Using Traditional Daoist Pills

Another stage that some practitioners encounter involves the use of traditional Daoist pills. These pills are not ordinary supplements. They are produced through very concentrated herbal processes and are difficult to obtain.

From direct experience, their function appears to be:

  • Helping to open the energy channels

  • Stimulating the lower Dantian

  • Increasing energetic activity in the body

With the support of these pills, some practitioners are able to perform Fa Qi independently. However, this independence exists only while using the pills. Without them, the emission may no longer be possible.

This stage is sometimes misunderstood or not openly discussed, yet it exists within traditional contexts and deserves to be acknowledged honestly.

Developing Independence Over Time

With continued training, refinement, and overall development, some practitioners eventually reach a stage where they can perform Fa Qi without any external assistance.

At first, the emission may be weaker. The intensity is not always stable, and it can take years to remain at this level. Then, at some point, something shifts. The process becomes more integrated, and the emission becomes stronger and more natural.

This progression cannot be forced. It unfolds according to the practitioner’s total development — not just energetically, but mentally, emotionally, and physically as well.

Energy, Skill, and Human Development

It is important to remember that Fa Qi is a skill. Energy itself is neutral. Being able to emit Qi does not automatically reflect a person’s maturity, ethics, or level of human development.

Within Nei Gong practice, Fa Qi represents perhaps a small percentage of the overall path. While it can serve as a reference point or demonstration, the deeper value of the practice lies elsewhere.

More advanced experiences and programs lead to a profound shift in perception, a deeper understanding of oneself, and a different relationship with reality itself. These dimensions far exceed any single energetic ability.

Final Reflections

Fa Qi can be impressive, intense, and even shocking the first time it is experienced. But over time, like many things in life, it becomes normal. What truly matters is not the ability itself, but what kind of human being the practice is shaping.

When approached with clarity, honesty, and patience, Nei Gong opens doors that go far beyond demonstrations — toward a deeper understanding of life and of ourselves.
