Introduction: A Lesson from Thailand

During our time in Thailand with Shifu Luo, during a retreat organized by Shifu Costantino Valente, a simple yet profound question opened up a deep reflection for me. Shifu Costantino asked:

“How important are correctness and compassion for growth in the Qi Gong practice?”

Shifu Luo’s answer was direct and without hesitation:

“It’s vital.”

This conversation touched something I’ve been reflecting on for years — and it confirmed what I’ve often shared with my students and in my writings. True progress in Nei Qi Gong is not just about movement or technique. It’s about the qualities of the heart and mind that allow energy to flow in the right way.

The Human Foundation of Energetic Growth

Becoming a good human being is not separate from becoming a good practitioner. Our thoughts, emotions, and inner state directly influence how energy circulates and transforms. When our mind is agitated, our emotions unstable, or our conduct selfish, the subtle energies cannot align.

To truly enter the subtle dimensions of Nei Qi Gong, the mind must become quiet, clear, and compassionate — not because of external rules, but as a natural expression of inner balance.

When correctness and compassion mature within us, they refine our vibration. The energy begins to flow with harmony, opening access to what we might call the spiritual or universal field — the part of life that cannot be explained intellectually, only experienced.

The Role of Practice: Seeing Beyond the Body and Mind

Nei Qi Gong is not a set of exercises. It is a mirror. Each time we practice, we have the chance to see ourselves more clearly — to observe how our mind reacts, how our body feels, how energy moves or stagnates.

Through this daily observation, we start to rest in a neutral state of awareness. This neutrality allows us to see that we are not our thoughts or our body. We are the consciousness watching it all unfold.

And from this space, correctness and compassion naturally arise. When we no longer act from the narrow lens of “me” and “others,” we begin to behave in harmony with life itself.

Why These Qualities Cannot Be Forced

It’s important not to turn these values into dogmas.Compassion doesn’t always mean helping or pleasing everyone. Sometimes true compassion requires firmness — allowing others to face difficulty so they can grow.

Correctness, too, is not about moral superiority, but alignment — acting in tune with the reality of the moment, without self-interest or projection.

When these qualities arise naturally, they become a reflection of clarity, not a set of imposed ideals.

The Path Toward Subtlety

Many practitioners approach Nei Qi Gong as a physical discipline, seeking strength, sensations, or control over energy. But the deeper dimension — the subtle aspect — is what truly transforms us.

This level of practice can only unfold when the heart and mind are refined. Otherwise, energy work remains mechanical and disconnected from its spiritual essence.

As we practice daily, observing, refining, and staying present, we gradually open to a perception of life that goes beyond the physical, beyond what can be measured or named.

It’s not about seeking extraordinary experiences, but about cultivating extraordinary simplicity — a clear mind, an open heart, and the quiet strength to be honest with ourselves.

Conclusion: The Real Transmission

In truth, the qualities of correctness and compassion are not external teachings. They are the natural fragrance of a deep practice.

When we cultivate them, the energy we gather and express becomes purer, subtler, and aligned with something larger than ourselves. And this, perhaps, is the real meaning of Nei Qi Gong — the reunion between the human and the universal.
