Fa Qi and the Path of Energy Emission in Nei Gong

What Is Fa Qi (Fa Gong)?
In Nei Gong, the term Fa Qi (often also called Fa Gong) refers to the practice of energy emission. Fa means “to emit,” and Gong means “practice.” At its simplest, it is the ability to project vital energy outward so that another person can feel it directly.
For many, this is one of the most intriguing aspects of internal energy work, because it is visible and demonstrable. The reactions can be strong — the receiving person may feel an electric shock, lose balance, or be unable to hold on for long. This makes Fa Qi fascinating to watch, but also often misunderstood.
Why Fa Qi Is Not a Technique
One of the biggest misconceptions is that Fa Qi is a “technique” that can simply be learned, like a trick. In reality, it is not a trick at all. Fa Qi is the result of many years of cultivation, refining vital energy, and building internal balance through Nei Gong practice.
Even after long training, not every practitioner will reach the point of energy emission. You might feel full of energy internally — like a charged battery or even a power plant — and yet when trying to emit energy outward, nothing happens. This shows how mysterious and subtle the process truly is.
The Role of the Teacher
At the beginning, Fa Qi is not something one can do alone. The teacher plays a key role, providing assistance in the first emissions. This is not about doing it for the student, but about guiding and opening the way.
The teacher’s support also helps the student believe it is possible. Feeling energy in your own body is one thing — but realizing another person can feel it too is so extraordinary that the mind struggles to accept it. Without the direct transmission and confirmation from a teacher, it is very difficult to progress in this area.
Over time, the teacher’s assistance becomes less necessary, until eventually the practitioner can emit energy independently.
The Question of Shortcuts
There are also external methods that can support energy emission, such as qi pills (dan yao). These substances can open channels and temporarily stimulate the emission process. But relying on them is like taking steroids instead of training in the gym: it may create temporary results, but once you stop, everything collapses.
For this reason, I don’t recommend shortcuts. The safest and most authentic way is gradual growth through consistent daily practice. What is built slowly and patiently remains stable, while what is forced quickly tends to fall apart.
More Than Just Emission
Fa Qi is real, but it is only one small facet of Nei Gong — perhaps 1–5% of its value. The deeper benefits of cultivating vital energy go far beyond emission.
They include:
Strengthening the body and health
Balancing the three energy centers
Refining the mind and emotions
Opening deeper spiritual awareness
Connecting more profoundly with life itself
Fa Qi is a demonstration, a way to show energy tangibly. But Nei Gong is about transformation in every aspect of life.
Developing Yourself 360°
The real purpose of Nei Gong is not to become someone who can “do” Fa Qi. The purpose is to grow as a whole human being. This means working on all levels — body, energy, and mind.
When we develop ourselves fully — not just the lower Dantian but also the higher centers — the obsession with energy tricks naturally fades. We discover dimensions of life and consciousness that go far beyond demonstrations.
Fa Qi is an achievement, yes, but it is not the goal. The goal is human transformation: becoming more balanced, more awake, and more connected with life itself.
Conclusion
Fa Qi is fascinating, but also easily misunderstood. It is not a technique, not a shortcut, and not the purpose of Nei Gong. It is a natural outcome of deep cultivation, the guidance of a teacher, and years of consistent practice.
Most importantly, Nei Gong is an endless path — one that transforms us on every level, opening doors far beyond what the mind can imagine.
