Qi Gong: The Experience Of Feeling The Qi (Energy)

The True Experience of Qi: Going Beyond Intellectual Understanding in Qi Gong
When you start practicing Qi Gong for the first time, it's natural to bring with you a lot of expectations and curiosity. You might read about concepts like Ying Qi, Yang Qi, Jing, Qi, and Shen, and encounter various intellectual explanations from people online. Everyone seems to have their own perspective. But what is often missed in these discussions is the most important aspect: the actual experience of Qi.
The Limits of Words: Qi Cannot Be Fully Described
While there are words and descriptions for the manifestations of Qi, they are only intellectual labels. These concepts can help guide us, but they do not represent the actual experience of Qi. In fact, focusing too much on these terms may even create misunderstandings about what Qi truly is.
Even though we can define certain qualities of Qi (such as hot, cold, or dense), it’s essential to remember that there is only one Qi, and it manifests in different ways based on various factors. Just as water can take the form of ice, liquid, or steam, Qi too can shift its manifestation according to its density or vibrational state. Despite these different forms, we are still talking about the same force—the fundamental Qi.
Words Are Not Enough: Qi Gong Is About Direct Experience
Simply talking about Qi doesn’t lead to experiencing it. The only way to understand Qi on a deeper level is through consistent practice within a proven system. Under the guidance of a qualified teacher who can verify your experiences, you will begin to truly understand Qi in your body. This process is ongoing and ever-evolving.
When people first start practicing Nei Qi Gong, they may begin to feel certain sensations of Qi. However, these experiences are often temporary and will evolve over time as their practice deepens. There is no ultimate endpoint to this journey—rather, there are distinct stages of development, each offering new insights and refinements.
The Skeptical Approach: Experience First, Define Later
As a teacher, I always encourage my students to approach their Nei Qi Gong practice with a skeptical mindset. Rather than getting caught up in intellectual definitions or labels, simply practice. Observe and examine your experiences as if you were a scientist studying an unknown phenomenon. Do not rush to label what you’re feeling.
Over time, you will begin to gather valuable data about your practice. When you feel ready, come to me for guidance. I can help you verify whether you are moving in the right direction, and assist in refining your understanding of Qi. This process is about ongoing growth, refinement, and self-awareness.
The Continuous Journey of Growth and Refinement
With the right tools and consistent practice, your experience of Qi will gradually deepen, and you will refine your understanding over time. There is no need to chase an ultimate goal—the true reward lies in the continuous journey of personal growth, as you become more attuned to the energy within you and the world around you.
