What is Qi or Vital Energy?

When asked "What is Qi or Vital Energy?" I will not be able to give a direct answer. For sure I can say that it is an aspect of existence, something that we can explore and grow within ourselves using particular ancient systems that are able to help us do this.

These Qi Gong exercises have the goal in the beginning to help us become sensitive to this level of reality, by opening the meridians in our body, and thus starting the process of cultivation of Qi and strengthening the three main centers that we have in our body: Lower Dantian, Middle Dantian and Upper Dantian.

My answer to this question is not philosophical or book-based, it comes from my own experience. It is practical. In fact, I don't read or join conversations where people intellectually discuss Qi Gong. I simply practice and turn to my teacher where I want to confirm something that I have personally discovered: to verify and validate my understanding of this subject.

Sometimes when people try to understand or intellectually study what Qi or Vital Energy is, they end up in the wrong direction. A common mistake is to believe that there are different types of Qi, such as Yang Qi and Ying Qi. When in reality it would be more correct to say that there are different types of manifestation of the same thing.

I would try to give an example for example. The water can be "hot" or "cold". However, it is always water. Similarly we can look at Yang Qi, as hot, or Yin Qi, as cold. They are different manifestations of the same thing.

Another example could be related to the different density that Qi or Vital Energy can have. Let's talk about water again. Depending on its temperature, water can be found in 3 different states: ice, liquid and vapor. Again, the subject is the same. However, it is manifesting itself in 3 different ways. The same principle applies to Qi or Vital Energy and its densities, when we talk about Jing, Qi and Shen.

The most important thing we can do is to practice and find out these things for ourselves. Talking about it is very different from experience. However, this little explanation could perhaps clarify some aspects related to the Qi or Vital Energy topic.

My suggestion is always to find a proven system and practice with dedication to grow as human beings first and then discover in this journey human possibilities that we did not think were possible.
